The final section of the $1.6 billion Wekiva Parkway is scheduled to start work later this summer.
The Central Florida Expressway Authority on June 22 announced it awarded the contract for the fifth and final section of Wekiva Parkway, known as Section 2A, to Superior Construction Co. The $38.65 million contract involves work on the roadway between Kelly Park Road and Mount Plymouth Road.
Once completed, the 25-mile Wekiva Parkway in northwest Central Florida, also known as State Road 429, will complete a beltway around metro Orlando. The project is expected to generate more than 36,000 direct and indirect jobs during design and construction, and will help reduce traffic congestion on U.S. Highway 441, State Road 46 and other area roads.
Wekiva Parkway also is contributing to economic development efforts in neighboring communities.
