Freddie Mac delivered some encouraging new for prospective homebuyers. Long-term U.S. mortgage rates declined this week after rising for three straight weeks. The average 30-year fixed mortgage was 3.43 percent for the week ending Aug. 4 which was down from 3.48 percent the previous week. U.S. mortgage rates are near their 2016 low point.
